Forum – “Violence against People with Disabilities in their Homes”

At this forum actors with disabilities will perform live the five short vignettes that have been filmed and will be distributed on websites and social media. See OUR PROGRAM for more information.

We hope and anticipate that the forum and ongoing project will increase general understanding and awareness of violence against people with disability, including the impact it has on a person, the potential perpetrators of violence and the diverse settings and ways in which it can occur.
QAI will launch resources – two booklets, five videos and a website:
The booklets are written in plain language, and illustrated by an artist with disability. These will be widely distributed to people with disability and their families via allies, service providers, health services, Centrelink, police stations and the courts, designed to raise awareness for and on behalf of people with disabilities who are experience violence, in terms of responding to violence, identifying avenues of support and challenging forms of legislative violence.
A corresponding website shall be announced as part of this launch including social media pages as platforms for interactive engagement and the home of the videos performed by the TAFE Actors.
