Profile: |
Kevin was born in Mitchell and raised in the St. George area. He has a family of four children.
He acquired a disability in 1981 through a sporting injury. Kevin has always been interested in issues of social justice but since acquiring his disability his interests have matured and evolved, focusing on human rights for disadvantaged people, but particularly for people with disability.
Kevin has a Masters of Social Welfare, Administration & Planning from the University of Queensland.
Community Recognition
Centenary Medal awarded for distinguished service to disability services in Queensland in 2003. The Centenary Medal marks the achievements of a broad cross section of the Australian community at the commencement of the new century.
QUT award the Humanities and Human Services Outstanding Alumni Award for 2003. This award recognises the contribution of QUT and its predecessor Institutes for exceptional professional achievement and contribution to the community at Local, State, National and International level.

Ken Wade joined QAI last October as our Legal Advocate. Prior to that Ken served on QAIs Management Committee from 2006-2007. Ken is a lawyer on secondment from Blake Dawson and will remain with QAI until June this year.

Lynn Barratt is the Justice Support Program Coordinator.
Lynn Barratt was admitted as a barrister of the Supreme Court of Queensland in 1990. Lynn has also a Social Worker back ground which enables her to approach the Justice System with a unique insight for people with a disability.
Not only does Lynn bring these unique skills to the Justice Support Program but she also has extensive public sector experience in disability, child safety, justice and public administration.

The Justice Support Program offers A FREE Service for people with disability if they are a witness, detained or a victim of Crime. This is a Pilot program that is now up and running in 2009. We are offering this service 24 hours a day 365 days. This service utilizes both Staff and Volunteers to attend Police Stations and Courts targeting the North Brisbane Area. We will also attend as needed the greater Brisbane area. We aim to offer support from start to finish, i.e. Police Station, tribunals, to the end of Court. The Justice Support Program (JSP) also have a after hours list of Lawyers who are prepared to offer advise to JSP clients over the phone while they are attending the Police Station.
